Welcome to Vixen 101, the new full time community radio station for Market Weighton, Pocklington, HOSM & the surrounding area.
Vixen 101 started broadcasting for 5 years on 10/1/09 and has lots of new ideas in mind to benefit the community.
As Vixen101 has been licenced for the benefit of the community, then we need you to use and support and get involved with the station as under the terms of our licence we have to prove that the station is beneficial to all.
In the mean time , keep listening and spread the word and if you would like to either be involved or want to publicise any event for a local charity or non profit making organisiation , then please get in touch.
Regards
Vixen101

Why is the station named: 'Vixen'?... I can only think of one (really obscure) reason... It would be interesting to know the real one... Whip

Urban legend has it that Vixen sounds like "Wicstun" the old name for (Market) Weighton. But that's tosh. The reality is more mundane. Paul, the guy with the inspiration for the station, when thinking of a name, wanted something short, snappy and that would stick in peoples' minds. He noticed that there are quite a few other stations with animal names, and so found himself in a bookstore leafing through a book on animals, and Vixen hit him inbetween his eyes as a name that fitted his criteria.
Hope that helps.

Thank-you for your explanation Bill... Based on the Vixen name and station ident (as we call it on building sites): 'The Beast is Back', I thought maybe you were invoking the spirit of The Mighty 1090, Wolfman Jack's station, immortalised as providing the soundtrack to community life in the movie Amercian Graffiti... I was waiting for a, probably ironic, ident referring to 'The Mighty 1079'... Your explanation, though accurate is much more prosaic... I guess you must be all engineers...Thanks again and keep soldering on! Whip

Maybe your theory could become the new urban legend.
When we were under the old Vixen 87 banner, broadcasting two x 28 day broadcasts per year, "the beast is back" signified the return to the airwaves. I suppose technically, it should now say "the beast is back for good - well for the next five years, anyway, unless we get an extension in 2013".
Not all of us are engineers. I for one haven't a clue how it works. We're all volunteers from all walks of life, but this is our hobby. Quite a professional hobby, I must admit, but rewarding and fulfilling.

I can imagine it is very fulfilling... I hope you didn't mind the 'soldering on' pun...I couldn't resist it...
Are some of the shows computer generated? I am thinking of 'Country Gems' and the Nostalgia show... Whip
